Hello Kyoto

Kyoto

We went to Kyoto. Kyoto is a place that has 1600 temples, for their samurai that trained there and for the Geishas that live there. It used to be the capital of Japan but then was moved to Tokyo in 1868. Kyoto is considered the cultural capital of Japan.

We took a 30 min train ride to Kyoto. We explored and had dinner and went to bed.

this job wouldn't be too fun.

checking out a shrine

The next day we went to a temple called Chionin Temple. It was beautiful!!! It had tons of little temples and shrines and a graveyard.

Then, we went to the samurai museum. First, we got to throw shurikens (ninja stars) which was cool.  I almost hit the middle!!

Next, we got to shoot blow darts that was a little more tricky. Fun Fact did you know that the darts would be dipped in snake venom so there opponents will die faster.

We got to try on samurai armour it was heavy especially on my head!  I don’t know how the samurai did it .

We watched a demonstration about samurai.

Did you know that samurais had to walk on the left side of each other. If they walked on the other side their swords would hit and they would see that as a challenge. Also, a samurai could never draw a sword inside a castle.

We learned about the samurai.

drumming on the drum to let us know class has started

This was the very last samurai...not Tom Cruise.

Then, we walked down a food market called Nishi market.

It had some weird stuff like octopus on a stick, cucumbers on a stick and big giant clams and oysters that were bigger than my hand.I thought all the food looked delicious.

We also went to the entertainment centre and we ran into a geisha.

A Geisha is a woman who performs traditional Japanese art and dance. They have white faces, wear kimonos and really high shoes like twice as tall as high heels!!! I thought it was really cool.  Mom wanted to get a picture but the Geisha was in a hurry.  Maybe we will be able to the next time we are there with Aunty Darcy.

That was it for Kyoto this time.

See ya,
Sam
