Exploring

V&A Waterfront

We went to the V&A waterfront. That is short for Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.  It is in Cape Town and you can see Table Mountain from there. The V&A has lots of restaurants, some museums, boat and helicopter tours , a mall and lots of other cool stuff. We decided we would go for lunch. Then, we went on the Ferris wheel.  It had amazing views of Table mountain and Robben Island.

Penguins

We also went to see the penguins at Boulders beach. We saw African Penguins. They are considered as endangered species. They were formerly known as jackass penguins. Their eyes can focus underwater and to low light so they will  call them the Owls of the sea. They have a very strong beak. Their tongue is covered by fleshy spines. If you don’t know how to tell penguins apart, here is how you can.  The males have larger beaks than the females. Their predators are fur seals, sharks, gulls and land mammals.

can you see some of the babies?

Here is a picture of their lifecycle.

Growing up: this is how a chick grows up. Nesting: being unable to fly. Penguins must build their nests on the ground and it is easy for them to find artificial nests. Breeding space: The penguins are social breeders they all live together and they defined their nest space. Chicks: Newborns are covered with fluffy feathers also known as down feathers. The feathers are not waterproof. So they can’t swim. At about 30 days old both of the parents go to see the chicks have to then protect themselves. After that we left and went back home.

can you see the egg?

It was a cool place. I really liked it there.

See you later bye
