We are in Israel.
Israel is a country in the middle eastern. It’s capital is Jerusalem. It’s population is 8.712. It’s bordering countries are Syria, Lebanon, Golan, West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Egypt.
Here is iIsrael's flag.
It has the star of David on it which is a big part in Jewish culture and Judaism. The blue stripes symbolize the tallit (traditional prayer shawl) .
We went to Jerusalem.
Jerusalem also known as the Holy Land is the capital city.
We went on a tour of the old city. The old city is surrounded by walls. The old city is made out of 4 different parts. They are the Christian quarter , Jewish quarter, Muslim quarter, and the Armenian quarter. Look at all the different cultures and people that live here. So many amazing things to learn.
We first started at the Jaffa gate the Jaffa gate is one of the 8 gates to get into the old city of Jerusalem. Each gate has a 90 degree angle so if any army tried to get in they would have to turn 90 degrees to just get in the city which would slow them down a lot. Next, we went to see a timeline of Jerusalem here is the time periods and dates.

Then, we went up the walls and walked around the top. You could see everything. It was so cool.
walking on the walls
view of Mount Olives
The main thing that we saw was the first city built outside the walls. When it was first built no one wanted to live there because they thought it was safer inside the walls. For those that lived in the town they were open to rifle shots from the wall so people wanted to move back into the city walls. Now, it is the most expensive town there.

After, we went to see the tomb of King David or David from David and Goliath. David made a little town also the first town in Jerusalem. When we got to see the tomb the girls were
separated from the boys because people didn’t want to be distracted. So we went and saw
his tomb I thought it was cool.
A few feet away is where the last supper was held. It was amazing the architecture was beautiful and the stained glass was very well done.

After that, we saw the western wall.
The western wall is the most religious site for jJewish people. They say it is the way the reach and talk to God. They put slips of paper and write messages to God or wishes to God. The wall was cool and very interesting.
Finally, we went to the stations of the cross.
The stations of the cross is the path that Jesus walked before he was nailed to the cross. It was cool but the story was a sad one.
That was our tour of the Old City Jerusalem and we had the best tour guide. Her name is Glia and I really recommend her if you go to Israel. Here is her website www.walkaboutisrael.com
We went to the Israel museum.
The Israel Museum is a museum about Israel how it became a country and all the artifacts that they found here. It’s one of the world's leading Museum’s. When we were there we saw the Dead Sea scrolls. The Dead Sea scrolls are ancient Jewish religious scrolls. There are 9 different scrolls. All 9 scrolls were discovered and brought to an antique shop. 3 were bought to get researched and the other 4 were smuggled to America. Eventually they got brought back to Israel to be researched. Cool, huh? There were lots of other museum stuff from around the world too.
We went to the Holocaust museum
The holocaust museum is a museum to honor the Jewish people who were killed, and tortured by the Nazis. It was a sad morning learning about this history. Millions of Jewish people died. At the end of the museum, in a room called the Hall of names, there was a bunch of pictures of the men, woman and children that were killed in the holocaust to make sure they will be remembered. There were books keeping lists of everyone who died.It was very sad but it is also very important that we learn and never do it again.
We went to Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is a city in Israel. It has one of the oldest port cities in the world called Jaffa which I will talk about in a moment. It is a cool city and was lots of fun.
We went on a tour of Old Jaffa.
Old Jaffa is one of the most ancient and old ports cities.
We went to one of the ports were we learned about Perseus and the kraken. Perseus had to slay the kraken to save princess Andromeda. The princess was sacrificed by her parents because the Queen kept bragging that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereus (who was a Sea God) who complained to Poseidon. Poseidon then released the kraken and the parents sacrificed her. If you are saying Sammy that's not right that is greek mythology it’s not in the Jewish culture. Well, there were these big rocks and people believed that the kraken was those rocks because Perseus froze the kraken with the head of Medusa and it crumbled to the ground into the ocean. I love Greek mythology.

We also saw other things like this clock tower which was very cool. In the olden days clock
towers were very important because it was a sign that they were more civilized and were a
rich city. I like it very much and cool. Again, we went on this tour with Gila she was so good, probably better than the first time I
highly recommend her.( she also takes you to the best restaurants.)
We went to the dead sea.
The Dead Sea is a lake that is so salty you float without any help. You just sit and you float back up. It is the lowest on earth and is 400 meters below sea level. The reason why it is called the Dead Sea is because it is so salty nothing can live there. It was so salty that salt balls formed and the bottom. I thought it was really cool
That is it for Israel it was really cool and fun. Next stop, South Africa!!!
Bye
Sammy
