Hello Mauritius

On Monday, March 11th, we left for Mauritius. If your thinking “where the heck is Mauritius!!” Mauritius is a small island east of Madagascar.

It is 45 km in width and 65 km in length. Their main language is English but they mostly speak French and Creole. It is located in the Indian ocean. It is also a part continent of Africa. The plane ride took about four hours. When we got there we drove to the place we were staying. The place we were staying was huge!!!!


The next day, we explored the beach. It was sooooo hot we had to go swimming in the ocean and it felt so good. Then, we went back to our house sweating so we jumped in our pool.That’s what we basically did that day.


On March 13th, it was my Mom’s birthday :}. We went to the beach and snorkelled.

We saw a lot of fish and sea urchins. It was super cool. Then, we went back to the house and jumped in the pool again. After that, we went to this wonderful restaurant called L'Ananas which means pineapple in french. It was really good. Then we went to bed.


The next day, we went to a spice market.  We saw spices, fresh fruit and lots of other stuff.

When we got into the indoor market, we walked around. We decided to try coconut water from a coconut.  It was very sweet.

Then, we left and went to Mont Choisy beach. We rented chairs and an umbrella. We also had a wonderful lunch at the beach. I had tandoori chicken.  It was very good.

After that, we swam for a little bit, then we went back into to the pool.


On Friday, we went to Flic en Flac beach. It was a beautiful white sand beach. 

 When we got there we went snorkeling we saw an eel, lots and lots of sea urchins I saw 21 on one rock!!! We also saw lots of tropical fish. Next, Nate and I  played in the sand it was fun. After that, we went back home.

On Saturday, we went on a dolphin cruise!! First, we drove by boat about 45 minute.  Then we  saw  some dolphins!! They were shiny and slick. We got on our snorkelling gear and jumped into the water to swim with the dolphins.

 They swam super fast.  It was so cool.  There was even a baby swimming beside the mother and I was sooo close I could touch it but I didn’t.

Then, we had to get out and go snorkelling but the reef was beautiful and very deep with pretty coral and lots of fish it was cool. After that, we stopped at an island and we saw a floating fruit store and this big floating store where you could buy souvenirs.   It had lots of stuff like shells, necklaces and dodo statues.

I got a dodo statues it is pink and it means love,  hope and heath for family. Then, we had lunch.   They barbecued chicken, fish and hot dogs.  They had a bunch of different salads too.  Finally, we left and went back to our house.




On our last full day, we went to swim with the turtles. First,  we went  on a boat  for about 2 minutes.  Then, we got on our snorkelling gear and jumped in the water where the turtles were swimming. The turtles were so close I  accidentally touch one with my knee.

 Then, we had to get out and drive back on the boat to the beach.

Goodbye Mauritius

The next day, we had to go back to Johannesburg. It took 4 hours to get there. When we got there we drove home and went to bed.

Goodbye Cape Town

Goodbye Cape town :( 

Dad surprised us with room service 

We sadly have to say goodbye to fun Cape Town and we had to go back to Pecanwood.  I had so much fun in Cape Town. it took three full days in the car to get back. We stopped at George/Wilderness and Bloemfontein.  We didn’t really get a chance to do many tourist things on the way back because we were trying to get back but that is ok.

The Amazing Bush House!!!

We went to the Bush House. The Bush house is a place in the bush in Madikwe where you can go on safari. It has beautiful rooms, a hide where you can go and look at the animals up close!! Awesome game drives, and a water hole. A water hole is where all the animals like to come to get a drink.   When we first got there, the staff greeted us with drinks. We then walked a little bit and could see some elephant at the water hole!! We sat down to watch for awhile.

  Then, we got settled into our rooms and explored.  Next, was tea time.  They sang a song for my Mom because it was her early birthday. We had cake, fruits, cheese and other yummy treats. 

Then, we went on are first game drive. If you don’t know what a game drive is it is another word for safari, where you you get in this big truck/jeep and you go and find some animals and look at them. We saw zebra, lots of elephants, buffalo, giraffe, wild dogs, and wildebeests. 

Then, when we got back we saw 2 white rhino at the water hole. 

Fun fact.Black rhino are more aggressive than the white rhino and are super rare to see.

Really early the next  morning, 5:10am to be exact. We went on another game drive. On this drive, we saw klipspringer, elephant and rhino with a baby. 

 Then, we had a break and went back to the lodge. We could do whatever we wanted.  I swam, played with Nate and watched for animals in both the hide and the waterhole.  Here is what we saw at the water hole. Lots and lots of elephant!  Some of the elephant were even swimming!!! Giraffe drinking, which is very funny to see because of how they bend down.   

After that, we went on another game drive we saw lions, (a pride of 7…3 lionesses and 4 cubs) and the same pack of wild dogs on the hunt!! 

Do you know how wild dogs hunt? Well, they chase their prey and they will run and run biting their prey ripping their flesh out and eating it alive. They are one of my favourite animals.

 Then, when we got back and we saw 2 white rhino and a black one!!!! They are super rare and it was my first time seeing it. 

The next morning it was our last game drive we saw more lions ( 2 sets of male lions) and a brown hyena.

Sadly, then we had to leave but it was super fun.                   

The Apartheid Museum 

We went to the Apartheid Museum. 

Do you know what an a apartheid is? Apartheid means separateness in Afrikaans. It was a racial segregation created by the government and lasted for almost 50 years. 

It started in 1948 and lasted until 1994!!! There were 148 apartheid laws here are a few. People (other than whites) had to carry IDs and had a early curfew. All hospitals, shops , banks and churches were separated for whites and others. Even bathrooms were separated!

 All interracial marriages were banned. People were classified into four different groups White, Black, Indian and Coloured people with mixed race. I thought it was absolutely horrible. At the museum, there were videos showing old clips of news footage and propaganda (commercial like videos from the government), lots and lots of reading, and pictures.    It was sad learning more about this.
